Hello Heavenly! And yes, I think Ulysses is making some good points... This game is SO ruthless with its learning curve (more ruthless than we ever fully realize while we're running our brains ragged trying to find a gimmick that keeps us alive for just TWO SECONDS longer in a fight,..Jeees, is 2 seconds too much to ask for?!! LOL), that's it's really easy to feel like the game's picking on us, or giving way too much advantage to the "better players", "KB-operators", "the AV carriers", or tricking us somewhow with this EHP/proto suit/ skill-training math.
But I don't think the game is doing those tricks. I think the game is just THAT INVOLVED and INTRICATE.... not game-control wise but in: 1-- how really techinical it's become to successfully kill you're opponent, or 2-- how easily you're being killed due to a subtle weakness in your fittings or your playing technique that you just haven't become aware of yet.
Number 2 gets most of us. Honestly, I can't think of another FPS I've ever played that exploits the smallest faults in my gameplay as much as this game,... if my subconscious running around the map recklessly isn't protected with just the right combo of recharge-rate mod, or ROR stat on my weapon, the guy I accidentally run into gets to rip my spine out like in that old Predator movie, before either one of us gets a chance to see what the effective range or kill-efficiency % was warning us about.
I sometimes feel like the other FPS games were letting me get away with so much finger-skill and bugs bunny moves, so I didn't need REALLY much situation awareness. But in Dust, with every new patch, increased situation awareness and staying close to others seem the two skills that keep raising your WP and your Kill Ratios consistently.
But Ulysses is right too that you don't get a chance to see if "the other player" is sweating too. After Blackfalconer whips me with his perfect dropsuit, he can go around the corner and get smoked by a lone Newberry that tried a flux grenade and militia scrambler pistol... I'll be too busy cursing at my own death to notice how easily he lost that fight.
The battle-end stats only reflect cold WP and kills--they'll never reflect that maybe Team-1 was the only team that had a well-practiced squad, or that sometimes Team-2 unluckily gets a whopping 12 snipers, leaving 3 players trying to capture null cannons without much help.
...We still have a LOT of learning to do with this game. Hang in there, Heavenly. |
